Without context this piece is pretty confusing so I’m gonna explain the meaning behind it. This is one of my pieces for my AP concentration on gentrification, the concept was prompted by a conversation I audio recorded where the person i was taking to compared the way we refer to gentrification to white rice. He further questioned what was not refined about the rice before hand in its original state? In which he came to the conclusion of the rice’s color being the deciding factor of being refined, or in the case of gentrification, a racial demographic of a neighborhood being changed from POC to predominantly white. Hope that makes this make more sense, I will be transcribing the recorded conversation on the background in a light wash of white to make my point clearer.
