This little crab was purchased during the astrological summer season of Cancer which is symbolically represented by the crab. A former art student had been working a family business of seafood fishing off the coast of San Diego. She was starting her own business and set up her first catch for sale at a local farmer's market. To support her new venture, I went and picked up a few wild crabs. She shared with me how to sedate and cook the creature. I was not big on kiling a live animal. Before the meal, I sat with the wild crab outside as it side stepped around the porch. I felt if i was gonna eat him, I should tune into its essence. I payed it homage via this painting which I passed along to my former student as a gift.
